World Environment Day (WED)

World Environment Day (WED) occurs on 5 June every year, is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. WED has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.

For 7 years, the WED celebration in Qatar with IAID being the overall organizing team has grown as one of the most credible environmental events in the Gulf region. WED Qatar concentrated on the various initiatives such as Talent contest, Photography contest, Eco-Fashion show, Symposium and seminar.  One of the most highlighted activities of WED in Qatar is the Painting Contest, which has continuously united arts and environmental awareness, gathering creative enthusiasts from various schools, universities and general community in Qatar.  Painting Contest has successfully gathered over 2, 500 participants covering all age groups. A culminating celebration was being held highlighting the winners, their artworks, and inspiring performances at major events venues in Doha attended by prominent guests, event partners and families of the winners.
